Finally, There Are . . .

Image hosting by Photobucket

Spring is here and with that comes a few letterboxing items to keep in mind and on your agenda:

* Someone once said that Spring is the perfect time for box maintenance. The nicer weather brings more visits to your letterboxes and spring is the perfect time of year to replace baggies, logbooks, stamps, etc. as needed. This will get you ready for the onslaught of vacation-seeking boxers for heavy boxing months ahead.

* Spring is also the time to reasses how we hunt and hide boxes. Don't forget to use some stealth when finding boxes so as to keep the muggles in the dark. We've received several emails from boxers doing their spring maintenance that have been upset at the condition of their boxes - boxes left open, strewn along the trails, containers not sealed correctly or poorly hidden. Please remember that it's your responsiblity to see that the box is hidden from all angles before you leave it. That goes for letterboxing with a group or with children. Be responsible and take an extra moment to see that the box appears hidden from all angles. These few extra minutes will ensure that the little treasure you just found will be there for the next boxer as well.

* Spring is the unofficial beginning of the heavy gatherings schedule. Check gatherings on Atlas Quest or our New England Area Gatherings page for a gathering near you. This is one great way to become an integral part of the local letterboxing community and to finally put a face with a stamp!

Be safe, enjoy the nice weather, hunt lots of boxes, attend a gathering or two and you will truly get more out of letteboxing and will enjoy the signs of spring - the letterboxing signs of spring, we mean!
